What's the difference?

The problem conscious person focuses on the problem long after it's presented itself.

The solution conscious person sees the problem, examines it quickly, then begins to focus on solutions.

Creative problem solving and becoming a "finder" is what this is all about.

Unstuck is the result. Positive forward motion is the action. Less stress is the benefit. Desired accomplishment is the result Greater power and influence is the realization.

More millionaires were created in the Great Depression than at any time in our history. Why? Necessity is what you might think.

That was the circumstance. What happened was that formerly “average people” with average jobs were shocked. Some self-deflated and melted into the morass of group fear.

Others pulled up reservoirs of creativity from heretofore unknown depths of their inner power.

How? I would bet that most of them didn’t know the answer to that question. But, there is an answer and it’s a valuable one.

I can’t hype that what I’m about to reveal as a secret. “The Secret” wasn’t even a secret. It was all over “Think And Grow Rich” and other famous self-help books, recordings and seminars.

But this may be unique to your experience. It certainly was to mine, and it’s been life changing in the most positive ways.

Knowing this has literally saved my life on at least one occasion.

The Greatest Self-Help Tip Ever?

Crises! It’s everywhere. Oil prices, the markets, government bailout, two wars, domestic terrorism and whatever personal stuff we have in our daily lives.

Crisis causes change, delays, costs money and time, creates fear, demotivates (some people), and can cause destructive reactions.

We are willing participants in a society that thrives on frenzy. The media, from the latest in financial scares to fires, bloodbaths and mayhem abound.

We buy the magazines, watch the shows, get urgent updates from news organizations, ad nauseam.

The Great Depression actually created more new millionaires than at any other time in history. We don’t hear much about that. We still have images of people throwing themselves out of windows and long lines to the soup kitchens.

There is precious little in daily media to actually help us. So, we go elsewhere. Sometimes it's the little things can cause powerful shifts in our lives.

Could this be the greatest self-help tip ever?

Who knows? But get below the surface here and it just might rock your life until you find a better one.

Recently I said we are all creative factories. And so we are. All manifestation is a creative event or rather, a series of creative events.

What do we manifest? Ah, that’s the question, isn’t it?

We manifest what we have, not what we want or don't want.

We manifest the now, not the future. We are creating the future right now, but it’s not here and it’s not final. It’s changeable.

I think that part of the manifesting process is a firm intention, but the only proof is the now. We all have the formula and perhaps this little bit will stimulate that knowingness. Let's see. 

 

The Note, Gratitude, And Personal Power

June 10, 2008 was not a good day for me. A myriad of reasons came together.

A close friend seemed near death. Other bad news kept streaming in, and disappointments of expectations not yet realized were sprouting like poison oak in an award winning garden.

Fortunately I'm a student of disappointment. I am the world's foremost authority on rejection. I even wrote a book on it.

I thumbed through the book that day. I was sitting back, thinking about the day and the events. When you write a book it's easy to set it aside. You may know the concept but not remember the contents so much.

I remembered that the foundation for happiness is less about positive thinking and more about gratitude. In fact, gratitude is the very foundation of happiness. I was struggling to find what was usually easy for me.

As I mused about my challenges, I saw an email with the subject line; "Your Message."  I opened it up. It was  from someone on my list. What timing.

As I read the words, I thought how really powerful we all are and often don't even realize it. Here's what the message said:

“I just wanted to take a moment to tell you that I don't know how you got to me...but I am very glad you did!”

“I am very attracted to your "voice  and message" and I look forward to the various people and experiences that I know that you will bring to me.”

I sat and stared at my screen for a few moments. I also realized that it's so easy to feel alone at times. It's easy to wonder if what you are doing is having the desired effect. It's easy to loose focus. In those ways, it had been an  "easy" day.

I read her note again and smiled. Not ai much from ego, but the sense of having touched someone far away who I'd never met or interacted with other than my emails.

And her name was Joy! I wrote back, thanking her. But, of course, she had no idea.

Today was a good day. Then I stumbled upon her message again tonight. Once again, I wrote her, thanking her for taking the time that day and giving her more insight to how powerful and timely she was.

How powerful we all are. We give a word of encouragement and walk away, oblivious to the happiness we leave in our wake.

A thoughtless harsh word can be devastating, again oblivious to us but not to the target.

I've studied personal power for many years. These events help to rekindle the flame of passion I have to share what I've leaned through the good and bad times.

P.P.S. My friend survived. A few weeks before she'd been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. This on top of other enormous physical challenges she's had for years. but last week, more tests. The cancer is gone!

Life Changing Gratitude

The power of those two simple words changes lives. they surely did mine.

It’s mind blowing when I think about it, and I really hadn’t thought about it until I was sharing an anecdote with a friend the other night.

Honestly, I never thanked anyone for what it might do for me, other than it feels good to appreciate and be grateful.

One use of that phrase ultimately created literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in future income to me and my company.

Another time saying, "Thank you," helped me to launch the first TV show I'd ever produced. At the time, I had barely an idea of what to do with the it. Oh, that same phrase also created a marriage through the same source. More later.

There’s a very powerful reason for writing this to you right now. To be conscious of appreciation can be life changing. You might get a real kick out this.

One evening I finished reading a book that greatly inspired me. It was a best seller at the time. This is long before the Internet. Yes, I’ve been around that long!  : )

I’d stayed late at my office reading it. I was so impressed, I began to write the author a letter. The next morning, I saw the unfinished letter on my desk and decided not to wait any longer. So, I called information and phoned his office.

He was running a top magazine at the time and was number 1 on the NY Times Best Seller List. But, he took my call. His name was Og Mandino.

I shared my enthusiasm for the book and how deeply it had touched me. Being respectful of his time, I began to say good bye.

He started asking me questions. We stayed on the phone for almost two hours! Not only that, we continued our conversations almost weekly. I became a sounding board and brainstorm partner with him and he was a mentor to me as well.

It would be ten years before we’d meet face to face. However, he was instrumental in introducing me to some very influential people which generated tens of thousands of dollars in income and life long relationships that continue to this day.

Another time I was using a nutritional supplement that was not available anywhere else at the time. It was distributed by a very small company in Northern California.

I called the owner to thank him for his product and to tell him how many people I knew it was helping. I found out they were having some marketing problems, so my then partner and I made an appointment to meet with him and drove north.

We gave away a lot of time to help relaunch the company. It was an amazing ride. The product went worldwide in a short period of time and everyone wanted it.

While I didn’t make much money with them, relationships were built that several years later created hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of dollars in gross income to a company in which I was a part owner.

One more?

One Sunday afternoon I finished reading an outrageously amazing book. It was written by a Chicago Neurosurgeon, Dr. Andrija Puharich, about his research in powers of the mind.

He’d brought then unknown psychics Uri Geller and Peter Hurkos to the US for study and symposiums. He was living in Ossening, NY. So, I simply called information and got his number.

He answered the phone. I explained why I was calling. I told him his book had helped me to formulate the idea for the TV show I wanted to produce. I just wanted to than him for it. 

We spoke for over two hours! My hand was cramping up from taking notes.

Not only did this lead to developing the show, but in getting a major investor. That investor later went to New York for business. While there, he met with Dr. Puharich and his assistant. He later married the assistant.

The power of a thank you, indeed! My TV show got finished, I met lots of powerful and interesting people. That ultimately led to my doing a series of talks at UCLA on the topic of powers of the mind, which led to a job as a special reporter on that subject for Channel 11 in Los Angeles.

Last year I complimented the writer of a blog post. It was a public comment. As you may know, when you register to comment on most blogs there’s a space for your URL, which is optional.

One of the readers of that blog write me a note and later purchased hundreds of dollars in products and services from us.

I began thinking of all kinds of anecdotes that were literally life changing to me, all because I said, “Thank you.”

I’d like to stress that I never said thank you with an agenda. I really do like expressing appreciation. It’s an almost selfish gesture for the good it feels to simply do it authentically.

I say thank you for good to great service. I go to bosses and express appreciation for their employee's good work. I thank anyone who opens a door for me or helps me in any way. 

I thank my friends and family and always say "I love you."  It feels so good!

Today, my mailing list grows in part because of comments I leave on other business related blogs. To that end, it’s become an unintended marketing tool, but the expressions remain absolutely authentic.

Personal Terror Or Personal Freedom?

What would you do if someone was systematically terrifying you and your family? Call the police? Sure, but what if what they were doing was legal?

Everyday we see the terrifying headlines and the news reports about the horrific economy. Of course the politicians are piling on too. Will it never end?

This doesn’t mean that we should ignore facts and there are tough times out there. But there’s more to this and we need pay careful attention, but it’s not the obvious.

Our greatest threat is not the economy, the war or any of what’s in the daily headlines. More on that in a moment.

Today, in my favorite daily newsletter, Early To Rise, (www.EarlyToRise.com ) in an article by Clayton Makepeace, he listed these headlines:

• Huge expenditures from a massively expensive war are coming home to roost.
• The U.S. economy and stock market are stalling; unemployment is rising.
• In an attempt to pull the economy out of its funk, Washington is printing money like there's no tomorrow.
• Inflation - our cost of living - has begun rising.
• Oil and gasoline prices are at all-time highs.
• Food and raw materials are in increasingly short supply and prices are soaring worldwide.
• Gold and silver prices are on a tear.
• Congress is already controlled by the Democrats and voters are set to throw the Republicans out of the White House.

Then he then went on to explain was that those were headlines from 30 years ago! The mid-1970s with  Vietnam winding down with many of the same kinds of challenges we face today.

Life’s Boats

I heard a speaker, years ago, use the analogy of sending out boats to get what you want in life. He said that if you’re waiting on a pier for your boat to return but you never sent one out to bring something back, what are you waiting for?

It was a good analogy. It covers our thoughts as well as what we do in the material world. If we go around saying, “I never get what I want.” Or “Life is so unfair.” Those are boats that bring us back what we send out. Here’s comes the one with the “Life Is Unfair” cargo!

I later joked that I’ve missed so many boats they started naming piers after me.  I was asked about that line recently by a client. She wondered if that wasn’t a “negative boat.” Good question!

The answer is that action precedes success. Showing up on the pier for example. Sometimes we have to keep showing up at the pier to learn what we need to know. Watching the other boat owners send theirs out.

Those piers are seminars, books, coaches, asking questions and observation.

Also, the realization that we don’t need to be on any boat,just send them out, commanding that they return with what we’ve ordered is powerful too. Did you see Forest Gump? I mean, if that guy can build a fleet. . .

Do they always return with what we wanted? No, of course not. Just like all boats at sea, they are faced with storms, pirates, leaks, you name it. All kinds of things can happen to delay or sink our boats. That’s why we get back in proportion to what we send out.

So, we can start each day sending out our boats, but first, examine what kind we’ve been sending recently. If we figure that there are a lot of negative boats floating around out there due to return at any time, we can choose to not meet those and instead counter them by sending out the requests for what we want instead of what we don’t want.

It sounds so simple. Misery is too. Not doing it at all is simple and requires no effort.

For those who choose to not participate in Life’s Boats, they become like the lonely beachcomber. Walking up and down the beach each day, hoping to find some remnant of a someone else’s positive boat that didn’t return. Maybe a gold coin will wash up and he’ll find it?

Either way, beachcomber or boat owner, the choice is ours and it’s a choice we have to make daily.

Personally, I’ll take my beach with an umbrella, my iPod and plenty of refreshments and relaxation. Right after my next boat unloads.

Wonder, Cynicism And Power

Keeping The Wonder Alive!

Note: Within this piece is a cynicism test. It's very short but definitive. You might be amazed when you see it.

I'm happy to tell you that child-like wonder still exists in all adults, at least I hope so. I had another hit of it, and I recommend it highly! It's a natural high.

I've heard some  shrinks refer to  it, “the inner child,” I'm not sure. I'll ask Judith and Jim.

Sometimes it seems more like the inner brat. But I digress.

“Been there done that,” is a phrase that some use as they  progress up the aging ladder. That attitude can be the breeding ground for  cynicism, which can creep in and overtake even some of the most delightful personalities.

Cynicism kills wonder and a lack of wonder clouds wisdom, stifles creativity and the whole world just seems the same or worse every day. My God, what a way to exist! Not live, exist.

I've seen younger cynics too. In fact, in our information age, it's easier to look on the dark side, especially if you have any predisposition to do that. The greater the negative the more airplay, blogging, newsprint, etc., it's going to receive.
