My Letter To Santa & Your Gift

Dear Santa,

I only want one little thing for Christmas. So, in the spirit of giving and receiving, I'm going to continue to give my book, "How To Take No For An Answer And Still Succeed" to people all over the world Until Dec. 31st.

In fact, if you want to save energy on the reindeer, just go ahead and mail my new MacBook Pro to the address below. But should you come to the house, don't worry, the dogs will be given sedatives just before bedtime, just like last year. Not as much, though. They were loaded for days.

Oh, and I'll leave cookies again too. Sorry about last year, it was late and I ate all but that half that I left you with the milk in a champagne bucket. More cookies this year, I promise. I mean, for you, not me.

So, Santa, thank you in advance for my beautiful new laptop. It will surely help me and all my members in the coming years.

Several years ago I was driving in heavy traffic on a jammed  L.A. street. The December Holiday rush was on and  competition for L.A. driving space was worse than usual–and nobody was looking very jolly, me included.

I was crawling along in the right lane, late for an   appointment. I was trying to make it to the next street  where a right turn would place me only  a few blocks from  my client's office.

I could feel myself clenching, like I was trying to will the  cars ahead of me to move faster or maybe even disappear!  No wonder I had a backache.

If you’d told me at that moment what I was about to do, I wouldn’t have believed you. Even now, years later, it’s still a vivid memory.

The car ahead of me approached a strip mall's  driveway where a couple of cars had been waiting  to exit onto the busy street. The already slow moving traffic was almost bumper to bumper.

I barely noticed that the car in front of me had sped up to close the gap,  leaving no room to allow the hapless driver to escape her mall confinement.

By the time the line started to move, my impatience  was getting higher. How much later would I be? The traffic signal a half block away began to look like a palm tree in an oasis. Almost there, I thought. “C’mon, move!” I said out loud to the cars ahead.

Three years ago, a little boy and his grandmother came to see Santa at Mayfair Mall in Wisconsin. The child climbed up on his lap, holding a picture of a little girl.

"Who is this?" asked Santa, smiling. "Your friend? Your sister?"

"Yes, Santa," he replied. "My sister, Sarah, who is very sick," he said sadly.

Santa glanced over at the grandmother who was waiting nearby, and saw her dabbing her eyes with a tissue.

"She wanted to come with me to see you, oh, so very much, Santa!" the child exclaimed. "She misses you," he added softly.

Santa tried to be cheerful and encouraged a smile to the boy's face, asking him what he wanted Santa to bring him for Christmas.

When they finished their visit, the Grandmother came over to help the child off his lap, and started to say something to Santa, but halted.

"What is it?" Santa asked warmly.

"Well, I know it's really too much to ask you, Santa, but ..." the old woman began, shooing her grandson over to one of Santa's elves to collect the little gift which Santa gave all his young visitors. "The girl in the photograph ... my granddaughter well, you see ... she has leukemia and isn't expected to make it even through the holidays," she said through tear-filled eyes. "Is there any way, Santa, any possible way that you could come see Sarah? That's all she's asked for, for Christmas, is to see Santa."

You might feel rejected if. . .I hope you will get at least a smile from the first part of this. After that are some practical reminders for getting “unblued” during the season.
